Am I eligible to apply on-line for a United Bank UK Savings Account?

Anyone applying for an account must be 18 years of age or older, resident in the UK (not including the Isle of Man and the Channel islands), have a personal UK bank or building society account that allows transfers to be made or received electronically and have access to a valid email account. You must also be a resident for tax purposes in the UK and in no other country.

What information or documents do I need to make an online application for a Fixed Term Deposit Account?

You will need the sort code and account number of your personal UK bank or building society account and details of a current passport or UK drivers license. Sometimes we may need other documents but we will let you know what is needed by email.

How do I apply for an online United Bank UK savings account?

Simply click on Apply Now icon and you will be ready to begin.

What is a joint account?

It is an account with two account holders, both of whom must be 18 or over and UK residents, for each account. Joint account holders have equal rights to the money in the account. United Bank UK will accept instructions from either account holder but only from the email address that is used to apply for the account.

What is the maximum and minimum I can invest?

The minimum investment for a Pound Sterling account is £2,000 and the maximum is £1,000,000 on each application. For US Dollar the minimum investment is $25,000 up to a maximum of $1,000,000.

How should I get my investment to you?

You must ask your bank or building society to electronically transfer the right amount to United Bank UK using the following details.

Please ensure your bank or building society quotes your unique reference number as an incorrect number or missing number may lead to us not being unable to open your United Bank UK Savings Account and you may not receive the high return.
Alternatively, you could also fund your account by sending us a cheque of your investment amount. Please note that the cheque should be payable to yourself (i.e. the title of account) with your unique reference number on it. The cheques must be drawn on a UK bank.

What account information will United Bank UK need?

When completing your application you will need to provide United Bank UK with your UK bank name, your account number, your UK bank sort code and the name of the account as it appears on your bank account statement.

How often will I receive a statement?

We will supply a statement by post at least once every calendar year and more frequently if there are any transactions on the account. For joint accounts the statement will be sent to the first name on the account only. You may ask for a duplicate statement which may attract a charge.

What if I want to take money out early or cancel my United Bank UK account?

For United Bank UK Fixed Term Accounts withdrawals or early closures are not permitted and 90 day advance notice is required for withdrawing funds from a 90 Day Notice Account. United Bank UK may at its discretion permit an early withdrawal subject to an early withdrawal charge. Please refer to the relevant product’s Terms and Conditions for more details on the conditions and applicable charges.

Do I get a chequebook and/or a debit card from United Bank UK for my savings accounts?

Not on savings accounts. If you wish to open a current account with a chequebook and debit card please contact one of our branches.

What happens at maturity?

We will contact you at least 14 days prior to Maturity Date and provide you with options. You will need to instruct United Bank UK, by your registered email, if you wish to take advantage of these. If you do not let us know anything United Bank UK will re-invest the money for another period of the same account type. United Bank UK will advise you of the new deal, revised maturity date and settlement instructions.

Are there any other charges for opening a United Bank UK Savings Account?

There are no charges for the day-to-day operation of account unless you withdraw money before the end of the period.

How is interest calculated?

For both Pound Sterling and US Dollar accounts, interest is accrued as follows:

For 90 Day Notice Accounts interest is calculated on a daily basis on your account balance (providing you always have the minimum balance in cleared funds in your account). Interest will be payable on your deposit from the business day that the cleared funds are received by UBL UK. Interest will be credited half yearly in June and December into your 90 Day Notice Account.

For 1, 2 or 3 Year Fixed Term Deposit Accounts interest is accrued daily, but paid into an account nominated by yourself (either with United Bank UK or to the account in your UK bank or Building Society). For 1 Year Fixed Term Account you can choose to have your interest paid monthly or at maturity. For the 2, 3, 5 and 7 Year Fixed Term Accounts you can choose to have your interest paid monthly, annually or on at maturity.

Can I open an account if I live abroad?

Our online application is only available to residents of the UK at the time of opening an account.

Easy Access Accounts

Am I eligible to apply for an Online Easy Access Account at United Bank UK?

Anyone applying for an Online Easy Access Account must be 18 years of age or older, resident in the UK (not including the Isle of Man and the Channel islands), have a personal UK bank or building society account that allows transfers to be made or received electronically and have access to a valid email account. You must also be a resident for tax purposes in the UK and in no other country.

What information or documents do I need to make an online application for an Online Easy Access Account?

You will need the following to complete your online application:

A valid email address which we can use to send you confirmation of your application
YYour UK postcode
Your UK bank or building society account details
A valid Passport or UK Drivers License
Adobe Acrobat reader installed on your computer to be able to read and agree to our conditions
Sometimes we may need other documents but we will let you know what is required by email.

Can I apply for more than one Online Easy Access Account with UBL UK?

You can only maintain one Online Easy Access account in your name and one joint account with another person.

If you have an existing UBL UK savings account (a Fixed Term Deposit) and your account was opened via online application, please send an email to onlinesavings@ubluk.com from your registered email instructing the Bank to open an Online Easy Access account. In the email please give us your existing account number.

If you had a UBL UK online savings account which has now been closed, you must go through the application process again.

What is a joint account?

It is an account with two account holders, both of who must be 18 or over and UK residents. Joint account holders have equal rights to the money in the account. United Bank UK will accept instructions from either account holder but only from the registered email address that is used to apply for the account.

The balance on the account may be used to satisfy amounts owed by any one of the account holders to UBL UK. UBL UK will not accept joint accounts that require the authority of all account holders.

What is the maximum and minimum I can invest?

The minimum interest earning balance for an Easy Access Account is £500 and the maximum is £200,000.

Can I open an account if I live abroad?

Our accounts are only available to residents of the UK at the time of opening an account.

How should I transfer money into my account?

Once your account has been opened, we will send you a confirmation by post. This will also contain the details of your account and bank sort code. To transfer funds please use the 8 digit account number and sort code and instruct your bank or building society to electronically transfer the funds to your account with UBL UK.

What account information will United Bank UK need?

When completing your application you will need to provide United Bank UK with your UK bank name, your account number, your UK bank sort code and the name of the account as it appears on your bank account statement.

Where can I operate my Online Easy Access Account?

The Online Easy Access Account is designed to be operated only through UBL NetBanking which is our online banking service. We will provide you with your login details and details of the registration process once your application is successful and your account is opened.

How often will I receive a statement?

We will provide you at least one statement each year. You can also view your account on UBL NetBanking (our online banking service).

Is there a limit on number of withdrawals I can make from my Online Easy Access Account?

You can make unlimited withdrawals whenever you choose using UBL NetBanking service. However, we will give you one free outward transfer from the account in a calendar month - you will be charged £1/transaction for any subsequent transactions within that month. Please note that the amount of withdrawals is subject to applicable daily online banking limits.

Are there any penalties or notice periods for withdrawals from my Online Easy Access Account?

There is no notice period required for withdrawals from your account. The first payment out of your account in a calendar month will be free of charge. You will be charged £1/transaction for any subsequent transactions within the month. However, if you want to close your account you will need to send us an email from your registered email address and we will transfer the entire balance (with accrued interest) to an account in your name free of charge.

Is there a limit on the number of deposits?

No - You can make unlimited deposits into your Online Easy Access Account. However, these transfers can only be made electronically from any other UK Bank or Building Society account. No cash or cheque payments are permitted in your Online Easy Access account.

How do I notify United Bank UK of changes in my personal information?

You must notify us as quickly as possible of any changes in your circumstances. You must contact us from your registered email address by writing to onlinesavings@ubluk.com. Further details can be found on our Terms and Conditions available on www.ublukonlinesaver.com.

Do I get a chequebook and/or a debit card from United Bank UK for my Online Easy Access Account?

Not on your Online Easy Access Account. If you wish to open a current account with a chequebook and debit card please contact us on onlinesavings@ubluk.com using your registered email address with us.

Are there any other charges for opening an Online Easy Access Account?

There are no charges for opening a UBL UK Online Easy Access Account.

How is interest calculated?

Interest is calculated on a daily basis on the total balance in your account at the end of the day at the relevant gross rate (subject to your meeting our minimum balance requirement).

When and where is the interest paid?

Interest is paid annually between 24th and 27th December each year.

How do I close my account?

To close your account please send your instructions via email to onlinesavings@ubluk.com from you registered email address and we will transfer the entire balance (with accrued interest) to an account in your name. We will not charge you for this one time transaction even if you have used your free one transaction in that calendar month.
